Inspiring wineries: Tahbilk

#inspiringwineries is a new category on my blog where I want to share photos of trips to different wine regions around Australia and worldwide.

My first post in this category features the old vineyard and iconic cellar door at Tahbilk in the Nagambie Lakes region in Central Victoria.

When I think back, it was THIS vineyard that really inspired me to take photos of everything wine related. The gnarly old stumps, even in the middle of winter, were just fascinating:  Planted in 1860, the vines survived phylloxera, making Tahbilk one of the few producers that make wine from vines of that age. The buildings are classified by the National Trust.
We visited in August 2011 on a day trip from Melbourne and enjoyed the cellar door experience including a tour of the cellar and a nice lunch at the cafe.
